Just as we predicted, Nike and A-Cold-Wall* are following up last month’s capsule collection with two pairs of Air Force 1 Lows.

Having last released a collaborative Air Force 1 back in 2017, Nike and A-Cold-Wall* understandably didn’t rock the boat with these low versions. As we previously reported, one colorway features black leather with dark grey suede and the other colorway has a white leather upper with light grey suede on the heel, similar to the 2017 Hi version.

At first glance, the uppers on these Air Force 1’s seem ordinary—beyond the obvious additions (and subtractions, seen on the swoosh) heralding Samuel Ross’ collaborative design touches—but they are constructed out of Nike’s unique Flyleather material. One of Nike’s latest innovations, Flyleather is made with approximately 50 percent recycled natural leather fiber, which gives the appearance of the classic leather upper fans love while reducing Nike’s carbon footprint. This choice isn’t just another layer of marketing spin; it’s an intentional choice.

"Flyleather is a vessel to refine an idea that was already quite strong," Samuel Ross, designer, founder and creative director of A-Cold-Wall* explained to Nike. "The technology behind it is also connected to the progression of my design practice, my label and, of course, my work on the Air Force. To produce a shoe that carries a sustainable narrative and talks to modern issues is a big thing." Ross continues, "When I first started collaborating with Nike, I had, like, 10 stockists. So, sustainability felt like something that was a much bigger issue than my own business. Now, we're at 130 stockists and our consumption rates do need to adjust. It has been brilliant to actually open up that conversation with Nike around clothing and footwear in order to take steps towards becoming more sustainable at A-Cold-Wall*."

The A-Cold-Wall* x Nike Air Force 1 Low will release December 21. Be sure to check Grailed’s Hype marketplace shortly after the drop for your chance to cop these eco-friendly kicks.
