While Acronym head Errolson Hugh’s role with NikeLab ACG as an apparel designer is coming to a close, he will continue to drop some of Nike’s most covetable sneakers of the year. After months of false information and colorways, it appears the real Acronym x Nike Air Presto Mid sequel is finally here.
Originally teased without any patterns like the 2016 Acronym Presto, this second version features different patterns on distinct parts of the three colorways. The white/black/dynamic yellow colorway features an all-over biohazard-like pattern on the toe cap and heel, while the grey/black colorway only has the pattern on the toe cap and the midfoot cage. The most publicized colorway—racer pink/photo blue—features a different pattern (reminiscent of the Acronym x Nike Vapormax Moc 2 release from earlier this year) on the toe cap as well as the entire cage and heel.
The shoe was released in small quantities this morning, without warning, via Nike’s SNKRS app. While fans were understandably confused and upset at the sudden pre-release, Hugh himself took to Instagram and released a video similar to the promotional clip produced for the Acronym x Nike Air VaporMax Moc 2 (this time with fewer cowboy hats and no John Mayer).
The video serves as an introduction to the “Presto Corporation” where Hugh plays ERL.SN, an android who serves as a metaphor for the innovation behind the collaboration Prestos. The most important detail of the video is ERL.SN’s “serial number”: ERLSN 09.2018, an obvious hint to the shoe’s formal release this September. Retailer End. Clothing posted promotional flyers for the shoe to its Instagram with the release date September 20. Nike confirmed the release for all three colorways on its SNKRS calendar shortly thereafter.
In related news, Hugh took to the comments of his latest video to confirm that this will not be his last Nike sneaker collaboration. Stay tuned to Dry Clean Only for all the news on the next releases.
Barring any other sudden shifts or drops, the Acronym x Nike Air Presto Mid is expected to release on September 20. Keep an eye out for more surprise drops as well as Grailed’s marketplaces for your chance to cop.
