Today, Arbitrage NYC is pleased to present our latest archive capsule collection, this time consisting of some of the most sought after pieces by Dolce & Gabbana. This collection has been in the works for nearly a year, a fact that truly becomes evident when you see these pieces side by side.

This capsule collection focuses primarily on Dolce & Gabbana’s take on bondage and military-influenced designs popularized by designers like Helmut Lang and Raf Simons in the late '90s and early 2000s. Most of the pieces in this capsule are from D&G's F/W 2003 collection, in which Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana infused these trends with their over-the-top flare and knack for sex appeal. The season also drew influence from the underground dance scene and an increasingly militarized political climate, which resulted in an overall tone that was darker and more serious than what many had come to expect from the iconic duo. The runway show took place in what looked like D&G’s idea of an industrial dungeon, with models circling a mass of rotary fans and scattered fluorescent lights. Models wore looks that were equal parts futuristic and brutish, from sleek space gear to rugged military garb. Like the work of many celebrated designers, Dolce & Gabbana’s past designs have now gained a new relevance. With trends of the '90s and 2000s making a return to contemporary runways, an elevated interest in these landmark designs naturally follows suit.



Our favorite pieces from the collection are the nylon bondage pants, which were also produced in heavy black cotton. These pants perfectly encapsulate the overall attitude of the collection with zipper, strap and pocket details referencing military surplus, technical wear and underground music. These pants were even featured in Dolce & Gabbana’s F/W 2003 ad campaign (see: last slide above); added iconography that is sure to make them some of the more sought after pieces from the season for years to come.
