The adidas Adilette slide originally debuted in 1972 as a poolside accessory. It’s remained an indispensable piece of footwear ever since, thanks in large part to its effortlessness and affordability.

As opposed to other adidas slides and sandals, Adilettes are no-frills footwear. For starters, it is comfier than the Adissage Slides, with its nub footbed. It is simple and classic in its appearance, with just the Three Stripes upper spread across the top of the contoured footbed. Like the Adilette slide and want to take it to another level? Despite its subtle technological evolutions, the Adilette remains an integral piece of footwear 48 years after its initial release.

Much like the Adilette, Nike’s Benassi Slide is a straightforward necessity. It sports a lightweight, foam midsole with a lined upper, which typically features a solid Nike Swoosh or Nike logo. They are the same price point as the Adilette option from adidas and once summertime rolls around, the Benassi becomes as ubiquitous as Air Force 1s and Jordans.

A true no-brainer, these are equally adept at handling a summer weekend getaway to the beach as they are for shuffling back and forth to the coffee pot while working from home. Even if you choose to spread your wings (and your wallet) with a more expensive option, you should have these tucked away just in case.

Visvim, the legendary Tokyo-based brand, has been setting the standard in luxury menswear since its inception in 2001. Created by Hiroki Nakamura, Visvim places an emphasis on premium materials and production processes, leaving no stone unturned when crafting some impeccable pieces, like the Christo, which originally released in 2003.

Inspired by Bulgarian artist Christo Javacheff, the Christo is typically constructed of vintage Japanese fabric and features a strap-over-wrap enclosure. Pairs often feature cow leather lining and sit atop a Vibram outsole.

“Since sandals are usually worn during the hot summer days, a typical sandal utilizes very little material and reveals most of your foot,” Nakamura explained to BEINGHUNTED in 2004. “But the Christo is the opposite of that. It covers most of your feet, revealing only small parts with a strap that crisscrosses the top of your foot, as if your feet were bound inside this material.”

The Christo comes in many color and pattern variations, but it is always constructed with purpose, and the price certainly reflects that. It’s the perfect pick for when you want to really treat yourself. Don’t believe us, then just ask John Mayer, one of the biggest Visvim and Christo fans there is.

If rap music is any indicator (and it always is), Gucci and its Pursuit Slides are one of the more aspirational selections from this list. The rubber sandals, produced in Italy, feature the iconic Gucci green and red rubber strap with a Gucci logo embossed on the sole. You can easily spot them anywhere you go.

Gucci makes a lot of slide and sandal options for men, ranging from their various Disney-inspired slides, to a multi-colored psychedelic GG pattern slide, to quilted leather slides. All of them pale in comparison to the Pursuit, the obvious choice for when you’re ready to take your slide game to luxury levels.

Speaking of luxury, the Intrecciato Slides from Bottega Veneta will definitely have you feeling like you’re enjoying a cocktail off the coast of Positano. The woven Intrecciato pattern has become synonymous with the brand, as the pattern can be found on everything from handbags to belts. Made in Italy, these pool slides are woven calfskin leather and sit atop a treaded sole.

British designer Daniel Lee took over as creative director from Bottega Veneta in 2018 after being the director of ready-to-wear at Celine under the legendary Phoebe Philo. Lee’s approach has been described as “a true passion for materials” according to Kering’s (Bottega Veneta’s parent company) chairman Francois-Henri Pinault. With leather goods accounting for 85 percent of the company’s business, it makes sense for Lee to expand what works for them, and the Intrecciato definitely works.

Equipped with necessary style and functionality, the Suicoke Moto Slide is perfect for a day on-the-go or just lounging at a backyard BBQ. Its padded suede uppers keep you cozy and its velcro nylon straps keep you secure.

One could make the case that the Suicoke Moto aesthetic resembles the Visvim Christo. Suicoke uses a Vibram sole (like Visvim) and features similar wrap-around nylon straps, but that’s where the comparisons end. They are, however, an excellent alternative for those who yearn for the Christo but would prefer a more affordable option.

The one outlier from the other, flip-flop-like slides on this list, the Birkenstock Boston Clog is an institution, worn all year round by men and women alike. Coming in a variety of colors and materials (leather, oiled leather, suede and felt, just to name a few), the Boston features an adjustable metal pin buckle to contour perfectly to your foot.

Traditionally, Bostons came with a firm footbed, however, more versions are releasing with the soft footbed feature. The shape and size is the same, but the soft footbed provides an extra layer of cushioning. So if you’re intending to wear these out and about, you might want to opt for the added support.

If you’re stuck working from home and miss your loafers, these might be the best thing for you. While we love the Birkenstock Arizona for its more traditional sandal shape, Bostons blur the line between laid-back loungewear and utilitarian outerwear better than everything else on this list.

When Virgil Abloh isn’t deconstructing your favorite Nikes or breaking barriers at Louis Vuitton, he’s still pushing the envelope with his Off-White imprint. Off-White clearly knows a thing or two about creating luxury loungewear, as they are one of the brands that helped pioneer the designer hoodie, so it makes perfect sense that they would produce a fashionable slide, like this Stamp Logo option.

The Stamp Logo slide is all-black and made in Italy, featuring a single band upper. OFF is printed on the upper, while the Off-White crossed arrow logo is printed on the molded footbed by the heels. Finally, it wouldn’t be Virgil if there weren’t quotes thrown in. You can find “RIGHT” and “LEFT” printed on the corresponding slide, just in case.

You can’t make a list about a casual summertime essential without including the King of Americana, Ralph Lauren. The Cayson Slide is the most ubiquitous offering from Ralph Lauren’s long line of sandals, slides and espadrilles, specifically the classic Pony version featured here.

Ralph Lauren has released the Cayson Slide in a variety of colors and designs, including a bold Polo logo spread across both uppers, a plaid upper with a tiger graphic, as well as a black camo upper with a skull design, among others. The Pony logo, however, is the way to go, as it invokes the essence of what makes Ralph Lauren’s blend of preppy loungewear so timeless. The Cayson is relatively affordable compared to other options, and comes with a padded EVA midsole and a treaded outsole, for added comfort and durability.

If you want a Yeezy slide or sandal, and aren’t sure what to make of the Yeezy Foam Runner’s cage-like design, then this Fabric Slide from Season 7 is the move for sure. The nylon upper is padded and luxe, almost giving off the impression that it’s leather. Kanye famously wore his Fabric Slides from Season 6 to 2 Chainz’s wedding back in August 2018 alongside a Louis Vuitton suit of all things.

Season 7’s Fabric Slide’s overall coziness gets the nod over West’s other current Yeezy Slide design. The Yeezy Slides released in December 2019 are more affordable, but aesthetically resemble an open-toed Croc with a treaded sole. Season 7’s Fabric Slide is opulent and cozy, with a molded footbed and rubber outsole. It is a clear upgrade over Season 6’s iteration, with its platform sole and “X” stitching. This is the best slide produced by Yeezy to date.

Since the introduction of the Triple S, Balenciaga continues to search for gold by debuting exceedingly ridiculous sneakers inspired by mundane and decidedly non-fashion source material, one of the most recent examples being the Track sneaker. Inspired by orthopedic Asics models, the model features interwoven panels of cotton and plastic alongside a bulbous, comically oversized athletic sole with more support than one could possibly need. Taking things a step further, recently Balenciaga chopped the top off to create the Track sandals, one of the most ridiculous high-fashion sandal concepts in recent history.

Essentially an open toe sneaker mule, the Balenciaga Track sandal is the most over-the-top high-fashion slide money can currently buy and for those looking for a hyper-stylized maximalist alternative to your average slide during the current slip on craze, these are it.

Over the past few years, Maison Margiela has leaned hard into any and all things Tabi. First there was the introduction of unisex Tabi sneakers and then, finally, Tabi boots for men. Given the unprecedented success and the style’s explosion on both the timeline and IRL, over the past year Maison Margiela has made everything from the expected (Tabi socks) to the entirely unorthodox (wax boot shaped candles and metallic split key rings), a pair of gap toe slides were near-inevitable.

Essentially just a normal rubber pool sandals with a space removed between the big toe and the rest of the phalanges, these are the most covert high-fashion flip-flops on the market. No ostentatious logo or tag, just a wholly non-functional separate toe space. In reality, give the house’s anti-fashion mantra, this might be the most “Margiela-esque” design in recent memory.

Swedish fashion mainstay Our Legacy is renowned for modern and at times unexpectedly provocative takes on fashion staples. Though the brand has evolved over the past few seasons exploring everything from sheer shirting to oversized unstructured tailoring, one constant has been a dependable footwear program, with silhouettes that—while atypical—we can’t help but lust after. The Our Legacy Mule is one such shoe.

A leather backless clog with a cowboy boot pointed toe and Cuban heel, the shoes are impractical, irrational and, at first, slightly uncomfortable, but given our slip-on obsessed moment and the exceedingly blurry gender lines that have men experimenting more than ever, this is exactly the type of shoe we see taking off in the near future. Easy to throw on but surprisingly formal and versatile, you’ll find yourself reaching for these way more often than you would think. And yes, we know, these are not even technically slides, but after over a year indoors, you may as well buy something you wouldn’t be embarrassed to wear outside. Trust us, you’ll be glad you did.

While the future of Yeezy collections is up in the air, footwear has undoubtedly always been Kanye West’s forte. Whether it’s the adidas sneakers or mainline boots, Yeezy consistently finds a way to introduce yet another massively successful footwear silhouette that not only sells out but instantly pops up across the timeline. And in terms of slides, it has options.

While the infamously difficult to cop—and endlessly memed—Season 6 slides and, more recently, the Foam RNNR are both still in rotation, as far as we’re concerned it's the Season 8 slides that are the ones to buy. Made entirely of a single mold of plastic, the jagged ripple sole and sleek aesthetic go with just about everything, while the molded footbear guarantees comfort. The only downside? Cost. Even today, when Yeezy’s are nowhere near as difficult to come by-—and command significantly less at resale—the Season 8 slide still goes for nearly $350, more than triple retail. But, if you are searching for the most hype slides out, these are it.
