Tyler, the Creator is a man who does what he wants. Whether it be changing his sound, starting a carnival or requesting GQ Style use an architectural photographer to shoot his magazine covers, Tyler’s output has always been a reflection of his current taste. Yesterday, Tyler revealed the lookbook for his clothing line Golf Wang’s Fall 2018 collection along with a letter on Instagram addressing this shift in the brand’s direction. More to the point, “Golf Wang is moving in a direction more in tune with [Tyler’s] taste.” He closes the letter with “To the new supporters who aren’t reading this, welcome. To those who oppose, it’s been fun.”

While the change isn’t as sudden as the letter makes it appear, Golf Wang has made considerable strides over the last couple of years, pivoting from it’s louder, more streetwear-y image, to this season, with has an older, preppier sensibility to it. One commenter compared the shift to the difference between Supreme and Noah—which, in our opinion, is an apt comparison. It’s clear Tyler and company caught wind of the prep revival set to take off this fall and came prepared with chinos, rugby shirts and oxford shirts. That’s not to say the Golf Wang has lost it’s streetwear sensibilities altogether; other notable pieces include a printed tracksuit (not unlike this Palace tracksuit), a landscape print cardigan, graphic camp collar shirts, various graphic tees and clean “Golf” branded crewneck sweaters.

The first drop from Golf Wang’s Fall 2018 collection will be on September 1 at the brand’s flagship store and online with Japanese retailer Beams in Shibuya releasing on September 18.
