I gravitate towards well-executed basics that usually evoke some European sensibilities. Mostly for simplicity, I stick to this ethos during all seasons. It should come as no surprise that some of my favorite brands include COS, Dries Van Noten, Aime Leon Dore and the always-practical-yet-steezy Uniqlo. Simple, muted colors occasionally accented by vibrant designs are what I look for in all of my clothing.

My personal holiday shopping list is pretty much a "set it and forget it" scenario thanks to the fact that I tend to fixate on very specific items before going completely fucking overboard in copping as many variations of them as humanly possible. This is probably why I have no friends and my family hates me.

Anyway, my Fall/Winter uniform has been laser locked for a minute now: balmacaan coats, deep pile fleeces, carpenter pants and hiking boots. The way I see it, you should either lean into the whole "salt of the earth" thing and go straight to the source (Patagonia, Carhartt and vintage items preferred) or level up with some Japanese versions of those same standbys. You can’t go wrong with either and both styles seamlessly mix and match quite beautifully. I might even throw on a western belt just to go full turbo because things can’t get any worse when your cruising altitude is already rock bottom.

Given that I’m prone to mix sensible, everyday designer pieces with streetwear staples from brands like Palace and Supreme, I think my holiday wish list is filled with garments that manage to strike a balance that’s best defined as “hypebeast dad.” If you’re aligned with a similar vibe, you can’t go wrong with knitwear from streamlined techy brands like Stone Island; family gathering-friendly pieces from Margaret Howell; or understated options from Supreme. Oh, and turtlenecks—this time of year, you can’t have too many turtlenecks.

My holidays are spent in the Pacific Northwest and generally, my winter wish ’fits consist of pieces that will keep me cozy with a subtle flex to stunt at my local function. This includes Needles 7-Cut Flannels, a plethora of vintage band tees, vintage Patagonia and some The North Face Nupste booties. Beyond that, I toss on a Noah beanie and I'm good to go. As for the nights, I’m getting dressed up for lavish dinners in my childhood dining room, so I’d stick to the classics. Nothing beats a pair of Issey pleated trousers and the wool knit pullover gifted from your mom. Happy Holidays!

For myself, the holidays go one of two ways: the mountains, or the beach. This year, I opted for the latter, and with that I’m on the hunt for the most lavish resort wear possible, a look somewhere between Gianni Versace and Hunter S. Thompson. For my everyday wardrobe, I try to find luxe iterations of mundane wardrobe staples—suede trucker jackets, Kapital denim, anything Margiela—so this season I’m eyeing some Alyx loafers (essentially Belgian shoes but more experimental), Margiela silk shirts, Comme des Garçons Homme Plus shorts, Stone Island trunks and obnoxiously ornate jewelry. Enjoy your holiday daiquiris—I know I will.

I like mixing high-low, vintage and antique workwear with designer pieces. I don’t own many winter coats, so I just layer up. Combining archival Comme des Garçons, French workwear from the 1930s and 1950s, and any durable boot (from Guidi to old Nike ACG hikers) has become uniform for me. When I travel to the Philippines for most of this holiday season though, it’ll be hot, humid and rainy. During that time, it’ll be vintage Carhartt, Patagonia baggies and sneakers all day. Maybe I’ll bring a pair of Dickies reworked by Needles, a perfect garm example of that high-low fashion. My family probably won’t get it, but they love me anyway.

Thanks to my California skin, wintertime to me is all about being as warm and comfortable as possible. Being able to do that while managing to maintain a human form is a science I am close to perfecting after my five years living in this cold, frigid city. Consequently, my holiday wishlist includes a wide array of the coziest of knits and outerwear plus more, that both guys and gals can enjoy. I’m also into headscarves at the moment (love you A$AP Rocky), all in efforts to look like what Maye Musk would look like if she wore Kapital mixed with Comme des Garçons and lived in downtown NYC.

My “Favorites” page last year had a lot of highs—cool drapes, Mandarin collars, Puyo Puyo Hawaiian shirts, Garfield-branded deep cuts—but it also brought along a lot of really, really stupid purchases along with it. Between the plasticity of visual representation that Grailed’s dress code affords and having database access to seven million listings worth of cheap steals and cultural ephemera, my closet has definitely started to feel really unfocused and unwieldy. I hope that this year Santa just brings me a good editor to help me pare down my longtail of wearable noise to get at the core Halt and Catch Fire throwback engineer vibe I’ve had in the back of my head. Step 1 for 2019: Transitioning back into the concept of wearing clothes with buttons.

Coming into the holiday season, the remorse often associated with self-indulgent purchases is a sober reminder that it’s better to give rather than receive. After trimming the excess from my closet and purchasing gifts for others, I’ll be putting a focus on contemporary takes on wardrobe staples that balance luxury with practicality while evoking my own personal interest in romanticism and archival fashion.
