"In Medias Res" is a new column in which photographer Chris Fenimore links up with some of New York City's most interesting people to see what they're wearing throughout the week.
Name: Julien Decanali
Age: Today 29, but by the time this gets pubbed 30...smfh it's over.
Occupation: Buyer, Mens Designer, Barneys New York
Neighborhood: Boerum Hill, Brooklyn
Favorite shop in New York City: Barneys, does anybody do it better? Also, I don't get a discount anywhere else.
Favorite restaurant in New York City: Da Andrea in Greenwhich Village, just really excellent pasta in a super relaxed, unpretentious atmosphere. Otherwise, The Lion for the fantastic decor and pretentious atmosphere.
How did you get into fashion: For all the wrong reasons: to stunt, feel elite, be cool etc. Eventually I got past those ideals and started seeing clothes and dressing as a means to reflect my mood and, honestly, I just wanted to own nice pieces.
How would you describe your personal style: Either overly dandy/romantic Dorian Grey-esque, or overly grungy, disheveled, tattered.
Current favorite piece(s) in your closet: Haider Ackermann jacquard overcoat from Fall 14 - it's completely over the top and looks like a prince's coat who's fallen on hard times.
How long have you been using Grailed: Since the day Grailed made the good (?) decision to bring Eric & LAS aboard. (Was it? Jury is still out...)
Most memorable Grailed come up: The Haider black velvet hoodie from the Grailed 100 that I never got >:(
Favorite fashion designers: Dries van Noten and Haider Ackermann
Ultimate grail: Any of the Raf Simons x Peter Saville pieces from the Fall '03 collection. I fucking love New Order, and the Power, Corruption & Lies cover art is absolutely beautiful. Plus, the added bonus that everybody is a Raf aficionado/collector nowadays, so these pieces carry double the cool guy points.
