"In Medias Res" is a column in which photographer Chris Fenimore links up with some of fashion's most interesting people to see what they're wearing throughout the week.

Name: Patrik Ervell

Age: 37

Occupation: Designer

Neighborhood: Chinatown

Favorite shop(s) in New York City: I just discovered 2 Bridges Music Arts in a semi-abandoned mall in Chinatown. It's in an amazing setting.

How did you get into fashion: I started by making some screen printed T-shirts for Opening Ceremony about 10 years ago and grew from there.

How would you describe your personal style: Swedish Californian

Current favorite piece(s) in your closet: The black raincoat I'm wearing in these photos. It never went into production so this is the only one. I always look forward to being able to pull this one out when it's raining. It's really functional, but also a bit sinister.

Favorite piece that you’ve ever designed: I know it's simple, but I think it has to be my selvedge jeans which I've been wearing pretty much every day since I started making them about 5 years ago. It's one fit that comes in 3 washes. I wear them 'til they wear out, but we keep producing more so it's perfect.

What’s next for Patrik Ervell, the man and/or the brand? Relaxing and collecting my thoughts after my S/S 18 show that just happened and planning the release of some new projects in the near future.

Favorite fashion designers: I would have to say Helmut Lang during his '90s golden age. Those are the clothes that first got me interested in fashion. Also, if we're talking periods, I think Prada in the mid to late-90s was very special.

Ultimate grail: There was a jacket made from vintage parachutes in one of my early shows. We produced a small handful, maybe 10 total. I would love to find one of those, they were really beautiful.
