Louis Vuitton and Fragment Set to Open NYC Pop-Up
- Words Asaf Rotman
- Date May 2, 2017
Between working with James Jebbia and streetwear god Hiroshi Fujiwara, Louis Vuitton men’s artistic director Kim Jones is determined to eliminate any and all borders between streetwear and high-fashion. Following the unveiling of the house's Supreme collab, Jones has been busy promoting his F/W 17 pre-collection, a full line of co-branded LV x Fragment accessories, shoes and ready-to-wear. Exploring the Japanese obsession with American prep combined with the rising influence of Hip-Hop in 1980’s New York, the resulting products are preppy with quirky Japanese twists. Items include fishing vests, leather boots and brogues with a subtle damier check outsoles, rainbow paisley button up shirts, bags (obviously) and the coup de grâce, varsity jackets.
While Jones and Fujiwara have worked together before—they produced a small capsule of bags and luggage available exclusively at Isetan Tokyo—this is their first full-fledged collection together. To celebrate, they have held a string of pop-ups across the world, first in Fujiwara’s native Tokyo, followed by a temporary shop inside London institution Harrods and, most recently, at Surrender in Singapore. As revealed by Highsnobiety, the next stop on their world tour is NYC.
While a location has yet to be announced, we recently saw some renovations inside the Louis Vuitton SoHo flagship—where the men’s SS17 pop-up was held—so that may be a safe bet. While the pricepoint is staggering, ranging from $500 for a phone case to over three grand for the varsity leather, we anticipate there will be a mad dash to grab the ultra-limited product—at Isetan last year over four thousand people waited in line.
The only information currently available is a date, May 3, with the upcoming nationwide release set for May 5th. As with the prior pop-ups, there will undoubtedly be location exclusives not available anywhere else. Keep your eyes peeled for a location, but for those not willing to stand in line, peep our favorites from LV and Fragment below.
