More than simply Drake’s favorite brand, Stone Island boasts a long history of fabric innovation, technical precision and, lest we forget to mention hooligan fanaticism. Above all, though, the Italian-based sportswear company is a hub of innovation. Considering the already difficult challenge of dressing for spring, the technical savvy company solves the issue for you with its patented membrena fabric. Featuring a proprietary 3-layer construction technique, the nylon mid-layer boasts a thin water resistant membrane on its surface while an imperciptble polyester liner sits on the base, creating a lightweight, highly breathable fabric.

A near-permanent fixture in Stone Island seasonal collections, every spring the company offers some sort of membrena jacket and, like many things Stone Island, it consistently sells. We prefer an iteration with a hood and internal pockets in case you get caught in the rain, however for serious stoney-hoods, the limited colors—which constantly fluctuate—dictate what to buy.

Perhaps the ultimate vintage throwback, for decades resident cool guys reached for their trusty Members Only coach’s jacket prior to leaving the house. Defined by its nylon outer, polyester lining, cotton ribbed cuffs and Members Only badge on the chest pocket, the jacket was a must for men across the country, regardless of subculture or style predilications, an impressive feat considering the era’s disparate style tribes. From Animal House’s Otter to Ferris Bueller himself, men of taste in film (and otherwise) wore Members Only jackets exclusively.

Though the company waned in relevance in the '90s—and attempted a mostly failed relaunch over the past few years—during its peak in the late '80s, the brand was untouchable. Combine that history with the fact that—due to its versatility and natural water resistance—the Coach’s Jacket is the undeniable spring kingpin. It's unlikely that you'll not look like James Dean when he wore his—but you’ll be one step closer. That’s a step in the right direction.

Over the course of the past year we’ve discussed the Prada Linea Rossa relaunch on numerous occasions—particularly due to how big an impact that announcement and subsequent collections had on the Grailed community. For those who spend any serious time on Grailed, you know that many buyers and sellers lust after late-'90s and early-'00s Prada sport pieces. The line’s ostensibly practical mandate—stylish sportswear—juxtaposed with Prada’s (at the time) ludicrous sales goals and on-going diffusion identity crisis ultimately doomed the ahead of its time sub-label.

Thankfully, however, in 2018 the line was officially relaunched in a menswear climate finally prepared for it. The minimally adorned, highlighter-color scheme nylon pieces feature the highest-end Gore-Tex Pro treatments and the sort of technical specs only the military requires. Sure, the price is obscene, but the only place you can find them for an agreeable price—if at all—is right here on Grailed.

Of the myriad styles available, we recommend the LR-HX005, an anorak style perfect for the unexpected spring storm front. Featuring an adjustable hood, fully lined sleeves and rubberzied Prada logo, the jacket is almost a one-to-replica of its’ '90s predecessor. But, of course, the modern technical flourishes are the difference between a novelty archive piece and a true Prada must buy.

What began as a European licensing deal is now so much more. Technically based out of London, Carhartt WIP is essentially an upscale brother to the American workwear giant. Manufactured in Europe and focused on street-ready silhouettes, the label simplifies and elevates many of the main label’s most iconic designs. Rather than make just one chore jacket—debatably Carhartt’s most recognized staple—WIP label makes three, including the OG and the Michigan, a modern version available in both a spring and winter iteration. While the lined winter jacket is great, there’s something unique about the spring version.

Featuring a contrast corduroy collar and available in a wide swatch of lightweight spring appropriate fabrics including denim and duck canvas, the spring Michigan jacket is the embodiment of light outerwear season: warm enough to battle a chill, yet light enough to wear throughout the day without fear of excessive sweating. With only a subtle logo at the chest pocket, the minimally adorned coat is perfect for those looking for a more subdued option. Best of all, Carhartt WIP is exceedingly affordable (even more so here on Grailed) meaning your clothing budget will stay in tact. Workwear is supposed to be practical, and Carhartt WIP does not disappoint.

Easily one of the greatest Americana brands in the world, Visvim painstakingly reproduces classic garments with inspiration ranging from military garments to stylings from the American southwest, modernizing them through unexpected fabric choices and the most premium construction humanly possible. The result is garments that feel both archaic and timeless, produced in ways that while ancient also feel exceedingly modern. The Kilgore military jacket is one such design.

A seasonal staple, the Kilgore perfectly encapsulates the Visvim brand ethos. While clearly based on heavyweight military BDU shirts and jackets—just the sort off-duty GIs wore while stationed in Japan—the alternative fabric choices, bold color palette and peace sign embroidery all reference the beatniks and hippies who co-opted the style during the anti-war movement throughout the '60s. Simultaneously buttoned-up, bohemian and distinctly Japanese, this unprecedented attention to detail is why legions of fans pay top dollar for Visvim garments season after season. Of course, the fabric is perfectly breathable and ideal for spring weather. Since this is Visvim, that almost goes without saying. If you know, you know.

On the other side of the Americana spectrum sits WTAPS. Exclusively focused on military reproduction, the Japanese label is famed for its unyielding commitment to sourcing, remaking and above all modernizing the fundamental tenets of military garb. While the label falls in the Japanese steetwear canon, its strict focus makes it very much a beast of its own. Each piece references a specific time, place and situation in military history, however given the label's streetwear underpinnings recontextualizes them in such a way that feels novel rather than simply nostalgic.

Of its many great spring-appropriate pieces, the M-65 is clearly the favorite. A classic mid-century U.S. Army silhouette that came to dominate secondhand and surplus shops in the post war period, the jacket's naturally breathable fibers and moisture wicking properties made it ideal for layering and humid clients. Without even considering it, the jacket ticks off all the spring boxes. WTAPS sells it every single season for a reason. It's just that good.

We totally respect those who opt for surplus versions found in piles at the local Army/Navy store, or those who lean toward the simplicity of Alpha Industries. However, if you've been looking to upgrade from the run-of-the-mill surplus pieces, but have been a tad bit hesitant on a designer-quality military-inspired piece, this is the time to make take the leap.

Though Rick Owens mainline is out of reach—both aesthetically and, frankly, financially—for many, his DRKSDHW diffusion label is surprisingly approachable. Focused on cotton wardrobe essentials and versatile outerwear, the line is best known for it's lust-worthy leather perfectos and best-in-class bomber jackets. While the mainline iteration features aggressively unorthodox proportions, the DRKSHDW version with slightly elongated sleeves and barely cropped hem is arguably the perfect shape, fit for just about any body type.

Part of the DRKSHDW permanent collection, the jacket is available each and every season, albeit with subtle, seasonally appropriate changes and design updates. The spring version, unlined and made from a wind-resistant nylon with silk liner, is ideal for even the coldest spring evenings. For those interested in dipping their toes in the avant-garde waters, this is your best entry point.

While not yet a household name, considering the explosion of its beloved track pant over the past few seasons, you would be hard-pressed to find a menswear fan who has not heard of Needles. Essentially one of the in-house labels for Japan's sprawling Nepenthes group, the brand combines classic menswear tropes from the '60s, '70s and '80s and juxtaposes them with modern Japanese streetwear. Of the many fantastic results, its mohair cardigan may just be our favorite.

Available nearly every season, the patterns constantly rotate from deep purple argyle to lush leopard prints, however two things always stay consistent—the oversized fit and cleverly obscured butterfly embroidery. Ideal for either a layering piece or simply a jacket in a mild Spring evening, this cardigan is loud in just the right way.

Dating back to the late 19th century when Burberry founder Thomas Burberry supposedly invented water-resistant gabardine twill, the trench coat has been a men's staple for over a century]. While it's name derives from trench warfare—the jacket was military standard issue throughout World War I—the modern iteration is far removed from its military origins. As classic a wardrobe piece as any, the Burberry trench has gone from status symbol to dated down market punch line and back again, due in large part to extensive licensing deals de- and revaluing the jacket over the past three decades. After a massive brand restructuring and a concerted effort by current creative director Riccardo Tisci, the classic gabardine twill trench is once again on the rise.

In many ways the quintessential spring jacket, the naturally water resistant fabric is perfect for unexpected showers while the elegant three-quarter length ensures your legs stay warm during a surprise cold front. Although a long jacket in spring may seem intimidating, if you make sure the fit is correct—tight in the shoulders, squared off through the rest of body—you won't be able to stop wearing it.

Patagonia has sold its proprietary synchilla fleece jackets since 1977 for one simple reason: everyone is in love with them. While the vest long suffered from an unfortunate association with off-duty finance bros, considering the brand famously stopped selling custom versions to financial institutions last year, it's rise is imminent.

For those paying attention, the vest in general is trending as of late, and this is the perfect candidate for those looking for the most idyllic, inoffensive version of the garment. While the regular fleece is fantastic, it's arguably more a fall and winter garment, whereas the vest—worn over a t-shirt or hoodie—is miles more versatile. As far as spring is concerned, with features like a DWR (durable water repellent) finish, lined hand-warmer pockets and a 100 percent recycled nylon chest pocket to boot, not only are you prepared for the fickle weather, the lack of sleeves means you will never overheat or get stuck carrying a jacket around all day long. The way we see it, that alone makes it worth purchasing.

Founded by Jacob Keller and Cole McBride in 2018, Bare Knuckles has built a name for itself with its vintage-inspired pieces. The Portland-based brand created the ideal denim jacket for the fluctuating spring weather. In the brand's inaugural collection, its black and red striped denim jackets have been given a grey treatment that provides the jacket with a worn appearance. The enzyme and clay wash gives each jacket its unique patina.

Keller and McBride sourced heavyweight Italian denim and Gunmetal Cobrax buttons for the creation of the jackets. The jackets were manufactured in Los Angeles at the Giannetti Factory, which works with Reese Cooper, STAATSBALLETT and Billy Los Angeles. The stonewashed jacket has a perfect oversized fit that can be easily layered if need be or worn with a T-shirt.

Engineered Garments’ Bedford Jacket encapsulates everything the brand stands for. The reimagined chore jacket references classic Americana with Japanese influences to give the jacket a more contemporary look. Daiki Suzuki, the founder of the brand, infatuated with heritage garments, has incorporated a number of small functional details within the Bedford Jacket.

Suzuki gives his interpretation of utilitarian workwear, which, in this case, features a boxy fit with bold peak lapels. The jacket is made up of a durable 100 percent cotton corduroy fabric to keep you warm on the chilly spring days but doesn't leave you overheated. The jacket sports four front pockets, military-style reversible buttons and three-button closure. Aesthetically sitting somewhere between military-inspired fashion and American workwear, the Bedford Jacket feels like modern-day vintage; it may sound like an oxymoron, but it’s part of Engineered Garments’ unique secret to success Like all of Engineered Garments' pieces, the Bedford is manufactured in the USA in the Garment District in NYC to deliver unparalleled craftsmanship.

The Barbour Beaufort is one of the most classic jackets for a reason, and remains a timeless piece of spring outerwear. First released in 1983, the Beaufort Jacket, designed by Dame Margaret Barbour, serves as the jacket for most occasions. Icons, such as Steve McQueen and Kate Moss, wore the English brand's jackets religiously and helped keep the British heritage brand within the cultural conversation. The renowned 6-ounce Thornproof waxed cotton outer is the ideal material while traversing a rainy city or roaming well outside of city limits.

The Beaufort is a slightly shorter rendition of the French shooting jackets, where the jacket's name stems from. The interior has the Classic Barbour Tartan plaid, a homage to the Barbour's family's roots in its home country of Ayrshire. The Beaufort is usually compared with the Barbour Bedale. While both are functionally very similar—a waxed cotton jacket, with two front pouch pockets and a zip closure, the difference lies in the back of the two jackets. While the Beaufort—inspired by shooting jackets—has a large rear pocket, the Bedale—inspired by riding jackets—has button-closure vents (which function as a way to make the jacket fit better when riding a horse). While it’s largely up to the individual, we like the rear pocket functionality over the vented back, but it comes down to personal preference. Whether you pick up the original version or a collaboration (I highly recommend checking out Supreme’s recent collab), you won't be disappointed in this masterfully executed, all-year-ready jacket.

Cult Japanese brand, Kapital, has crafted some truly exceptional pieces over the last 36 years since its inception. Originally a premium denim maker, the brand has expanded its expertise while remaining focused on traditional Japanese production techniques and silhouettes. Far more than just your run-of-the-mill Patagonia Synchilla (though, admittedly, there’s nothing wrong with those) the Damask Fleece Jacket from the brand's Fall/Winter 2019 collection can suffice as your only fleece in your closet. Toshikiyo Hirata has skillfully adorned the beige fleece in a damask pattern with rich indigo dyes.

The premium, lightweight fleece is remarkably soft to the touch while still retaining heat when the temperature drops. The oversized fleece has a fully equipped drawcord waist to adjust to bring greater functionality and comfort. The fleece features zip-up construction, outlined by the dark red piping motif running along the cuffs, hemline and on the central zipper placket. Details, such as the zipper tab's tiger pelt and the heightened zip neckline with the grosgrain ribbon stitching set this fleece apart from the others you may own.

Stussy has had an incredible resurgence in the last year or so, thanks in no small part to its 40th anniversary. From the mainline releases to its myriad collaborations, the legendary Californian brand is unique in its ability to appeal across the fashion spectrum. Whether you're a fan of streetwear or only interested in its partnerships with high-fashion labels, Stussy’s logo is one that manages to transcend a singular definition. One of the brand’s notable collaborations was partnering with Comme des Garçons to commemorate its 40th anniversary.

The two brands released a black wool varsity jacket with satin lining and embroidered chenille co-branded patches as a nod to the storied history of Stussy. The jacket's front showcases the original Stussy Chapter Store locations, “Double S” logo and—naturally—an homage to its four decades in the business (1980-2020). In contrast, the back features a large geometric Surfer carrying a "CDG" branded surfboard. On the sleeves, you'll find patches highlighting Stussy's and Comme des Garçons’ signature garments. Patches aside, a snap closure front, welt pockets, oversized fit and ribbed black collar, cuffs and hem stay true to the classic varsity jacket design. No matter what you’re dealing with this spring (or what your style is) it’s always a safe bet to have a classic varsity jacket in your closet. Given Stussy’s OG status across the fashion spectrum, it’s definitely a flex to have this varsity jacket as the one that makes the grade for your wardrobe.
