Following his fitness-minded second collection with Nike back in January, Alyx founder Matthew Williams has teamed up with the sportswear juggernaut again to release a city street-ready footwear capsule for his active fans.
The collection will consist of two new silhouettes—a men’s sneaker based on the Free Train 3 and a women’s sneaker based on the Free TR Flyknit 3, both of which will feature detachable crampons made in collaboration with popular sole manufacturer Vibram.
The Free Train 3 features a medial zipper at the collar for easy access as well as track spike-inspired lacing. The Free TR Flyknit 3 features molded overlays on the upper as well as a sock collar based on the Nike Elite high quarter sock (Williams’ love of exposed Nike socks is well documented).
When Williams’ spoke to Nike about the capsule and the Vibram accessories, he said “This shoe embodies the multi-functionality of our modern urban existence. We are proud to have collaborated with Vibram on the detachable crampon rubber sole, which allows for the shoe to be used as a minimal trainer inside of a gym or as a resilient boot on city streets or park trails.”
The Matthew M Williams x Nike Free TR 3 SP launches June 8 at the NikeLab Chicago Re-Creation Center c/o Virgil Abloh. A global release will follow June 27. Be sure to check Grailed’s Hype marketplace shortly after the release for your chance at Williams’ latest Nike collaboration.
