Avoiding press and with little of a website to speak of, not much is actually known about Cactus Plant Flea Market. Founded by Cynthia Lu—who for years worked as Pharrell Williams' assistant—the label was launched in approximately 2015. First spotted on Lu’s former boss, many assumed the label was Williams endeavour until the mogul gave his assistant “Cactus” a shoutout during an acceptance speech for the CFDA Fashion Icon award. The public began to piece together that “Cactus” (aka Lu) was the mastermind behind the operation and given Pharrell’s incredible network and Lu’s close relationship with individuals ranging from NIGO to A$AP Rocky, the label took off immediately and interest skyrocketed. Apart from a perennially out of stock Big Cartel page, for years there were no stockists to speak of, but slowly premier retailers ranging from Dover Street Market to Union Los Angeles began carrying the labels tie-tye tees and graphic hoodies. Eventually introducing a full ready-to-wear collection, the line now ranges from carpenter pants to oversized boxing shorts, worn by some of the most stylish artists and influencer in the industry. Between collaborating with Human Made and motocross brand Alpine Star to designing merch for A$AP Mob’s “Yam’s Day” concert and Kanye and Kid Cudi’s Kids See Ghosts shows, CPFM solidified itself as the face of the emerging DIY streetwear movement. With themes ranging from botany (obviously) to psychedelia and freedom, Lu’s lackadaisical–and above all inclusive—aesthetic is incredibly prescient and despite no formal interviews or campaigns, a Nike collaboration was inevitable for a brand this plugged in. With the VaporMax 2019 release, streetwear fans across the globe are suddenly aware, and Cactus Plant Flea Market is poised to explode.

The Nike x Cactus Plant Flea Market VaporMax 2019 launches today via the Nike webstore and select NikeLab retailers. Expect the sneakers to hit the hype marketplace later today.
