Virgil Abloh Teases new Off-White x Jordan Brand Sneaker

After months of rumors and leaked images, Virgil Abloh officially unveiled the Off-White x Air Jordan V during the Off-White Fall/Winter 2020 show in Paris.
As with the Off-White x Air Jordan 1—and, broadly speaking, “The Ten”—the focus remains on deconstruction. While the inspiration comes from the iconic suede Black/Metallic Air Jordan V, the upper of this Off-White version is comprised of synthetic TPE material, much like the “Ghosting” themed Off-White x Nike releases dating back to 2017. This collaboration also takes cues from Off-White’s Women’s Spring/Summer 2020 collection, where circular cut-outs were featured on multiple pieces.
The collaboration features Off-White signatures such as the zip-tie and “Shoelaces” shoelaces as well as details some Nike heads will be excited to see like the yellowed outsole and Nike Air branding on the heel. Another difference many will notice immediately is the sneaker’s tongue, vastly thinner than the Jordan V’s signature padded tongue. This will most likely result in styling moves previous versions of the Jordan V would not allow.
The timing of this release also has historical significance as this is the 30th anniversary of the release of the original Nike Air Jordan V in February 1990. At the time the shoe’s release coincided with that year’s All Star game, which took place in Miami. Fittingly, this collaboration is rumored to release during the 2020 All Star Weekend, which will be in the city where both Abloh and Jordan’s legacies stem from, Chicago.
With the Off-White x Nike Dunk Lows being a successful cap on the 2010’s for Off-White and Nike, this Air Jordan V collaboration will make its mark as the two set out to dominate the 2020’s.
The Off-White x Air Jordan V is expected to be released in February. In the meantime, shop more Off-White x Nike collaborations here. Be sure to check Dry Clean Only for more information on the drop.
