On Thursday (reported widely on Friday), Palace and Polo Ralph Lauren announced they had something in the works via three billboards seen in Tokyo’s famous Shibuya Crossing, featuring both brand logos in white on a navy blue background. Today, in an interview with Business of Fashion, Palace founder Lev Tanju and co-owner Gareth Skewis speak on the partnership.
While the two kept most of the details regarding the collaboration close to the vest, Tanju and Skewis informed us that the collection will consist of tops, pants, outerwear and accessories as well as a classic Polo Oxford button-down shirt featuring both Palace and Polo Ralph Lauren logos. The collection was inspired by Ralph Lauren pieces Tanju and Skewis have worn their whole lives.
Hitting on the American label’s unique status at the intersection of luxury and streetwear, Skewis remarked “It’s the only brand that you can wear to a board meeting, a funeral and go to the football in—and all in the same day.” While the interview doesn’t dive into specifics, it does state that the collaborative pieces are expected to be priced like a usual Palace collection.
Though no release date has been revealed, Tanju and Skewis hinted that the release is “imminent”. Stay tuned to Dry Clean Only for more info on the upcoming collaboration.
