The 10 Rarest Sneakers On Grailed: Week of December 8, 2019

The online sneaker community lost its collective mind last week when two important pieces of information regarding one of the most beloved sneakers of all time–the Air Jordan I–scrolled across timelines seemingly within minutes of each other.
First was the long-awaited official photos and release information for a Dior Jordan I–set to drop in April 2020–which then debuted on the runway at Dior’s Pre-Fall show in Miami that same day. Designer Kim Jones is a lifelong Jordan fanatic and pairing the two brands made too much sense to him. “I love mixing together different worlds, different ideas,” Jones said. “And Jordan Brand and Maison Dior are both emblematic of absolute excellence in their fields.” The sneaker’s design was met with mixed reviews, but the buzz is already palpable. The unrelenting hype is sure to yield some of the highest resale sneaker prices of 2020.
The other bit of news that dropped was more subtle, but perhaps even more exciting for OG Jordan I fans. Hiroshi Fujiwara, the influential mind behind Fragment Design, dropped a peek at a potential new Jordan I pack on his Instagram, which is also rumored to drop in 2020. The Jordan I pictured is a ridiculously clean, never-before-seen red and white pair. Right next to it is a red and white Air Ship, a Nike basketball sneaker from the mid-80s, which is perhaps most famous for being the kicks Michael Jordan wore on the court as a rookie before his signature line was born. The ensuing release marks the first time the Air Ship will be hitting retailers in decades.
Despite the onslaught of Jordan I releases in recent years, the sneaker remains ubiquitous. With these two impending iterations, plus the rumored OG “Chicago” I slated to release in February, 2020 is shaping up to be a huge year for the veteran sneaker. And that’s where we start this week’s list, back where it all began.
Never forget: No online retailer has the same breadth and depth of selection as Grailed. From Slam Jam Nike Blazers to Ninja Turtle-inspired SBs (and everything in between), in no particular order, these are our picks for the Rarest Sneakers on Grailed This Week.
