Everyone knows the infamous “Pigeon” NIke SB Dunks from 2005. The release caused a frenzy in New York City and made sneaker history in the process (along with the cover of the New York Post). Jeff Staple, the man behind the madness, brought his pigeon-inspired look to New Balance in 2008 for this collaboration on the 575 model. Limited to about 800 pairs worldwide, this was yet another super elusive “Pigeon” release for Staple. The New Balance trail runners are decked in the classic grey, white and orange “Pigeon” color scheme, with the original pigeon logo and a new mid-flight pigeon design embroidered on each heel. It proved once again that Staples’ unique NYC style was a must for sneakerheads.

Back in 2006, Japanese brand Atmos and Nike collaborated on a limited edition Air Max 1 to rave reviews. The Air Max featured a black suede upper with elephant print–the pattern made famous on the Air Jordan III by Tinker Hatfied–and jade green accents. After the limited run, the sneaker laid dormant for a decade, despite fans all around the world clamoring for another shot at the shoes. Finally, in 2016, that Air Max 1 won Nike’s Vote Back contest, ensuring a proper retro release. Released on Air Max Day in 2017, the retro version featured in this listing hit all the same notes as the original. Out of all the animal-inspired Air Maxes Atmos has churned out through the years (and there have been some great ones), these remain the best of the bunch.

Throughout the early-2000s, the bold camo patterns and Baby Milo designs from BAPE dominated the fashion and music landscape. At the peak of its powers in 2007, BAPE tag-teamed with DC Comics for a limited edition run of superhero-inspired footwear, channeling Batman, Superman and other iconic characters in the DC lineup. One of the hits from that string of releases is the “Wonder Woman” Bapesta featured in this listing. The patent leather upper is covered in Wonder Woman’s famous red, blue and yellow color palette. The legendary heroine’s image is embroidered on the heel as well.

Back in 2005, Nike SB teamed up with London skate shop Slam City Skates for the Dunk collaboration found in this listing. The predominantly tan upper is comprised entirely of suede and features black overlays around the eyelets and toe box. White contrast stitching can be found throughout, while shades of blue permeate the heel and Swoosh. A true skater’s shoe, there are a few design tweaks that add durability, like the rubber panels along the toe and the Zoom Air cushioning in the midsole. It’s topped off with a caricature on the tongue and a map of skating destinations around London on the insole.

Joe Freshgoods, the Chicago-based creative and co-owner of Logan Square’s Fat Tiger Workshop, crafted these lovely New Balance 992s in a collaboration with his “Don’t Be Mad” label. The limited release is affectionately nicknamed “Anatomy of a Heart” and aptly dropped on Valentine’s Day 2020. The upper is constructed of burgundy mesh and tan leather, as well as red and pink suede overlays, seamlessly integrating the many shades of a human heart on a sneaker. A black and white midsole finishes off the design. That same day, Joe dropped his take on the New Balance OMN1S basketball sneaker, dubbed “No Emotions Are Emotions.” These 992s quickly became one of the most exciting releases of 2020 to date, and fans everywhere can’t want to see what Joe’s got on deck.

At first glance–without knowing its name–you might think these SB Dunks were another Safari-inspired Atmos collaboration. It turns out, these Dunks are inspired by none other than Kenny Powers, the hilarious lead character from Eastbound and Down, which ran for four seasons on HBO. Specifically, the pattern is inspired by Kenny’s purple jet ski from the show. The “Kenny Powers” Dunk sports a cheetah-print upper with purple overlays, tongue and laces, with a white midsole and outline around the Swoosh. The sneaker also goes by “Purple Safari,” but “Kenny Powers” really creates a unique snapshot of the era in which it was released.

One of the most menacing and memorable foes in the Rocky saga of movies is undoubtedly Clubber Lang, played by Mr. T. Early in Rocky III, Lang destroys Rocky Balboa and sends him into an emotional tailspin. Distraught, Rocky retreats to California with Apollo Creed to train, before ultimately redeeming himself against Lang and recapturing his Heavyweight Championship. While Lang only appears in one Rocky film, he was apparently memorable enough to get his own SB Dunk named after him. The Dunk featured in this listing sports a light blue and white upper, inspired by Lang’s trunks, and the gold overlay and strap is meant to resemble the Championship belt.

No Vacancy Inn is a creative collective consisting of Tremaine “Denim Tears” Emory and Acyde. They collaborated with New Balance back in 2019 on a 990v3 model dubbed “Water and WiFi,” which can be found in this listing. The shoe is composed of a dark blue and grey suede upper and is topped off with bright red laces, adding some flavor. On the back, you’ll find the words “Water” and “WiFi” embroidered on each shoe’s heel. No Vacancy Inn branding can be found on the insole as well. The duo would go on to bring its “Water and WiFi” colorway to the New Balance 850 later that same year. A hyper limited release, this box appears to be autographed by Emory (aka Denim Tears) himself.

Marcus Jordan and his Florida-based Trophy Room sneaker boutique are no strangers to dope Jordan collaborations. After releasing white and black colorways of the Air Jordan 23, Marcus Jordan tackled another underrated Jordan for his next collaboration, the Jordan XVI. This monochromatic take on the XVI features patent leather overlays and toe box, and a top-end leather shroud which covers the laces, all of which sit atop an icy sole. The release was limited to just 5,000 pairs and could only be found on the Trophy Room website or via a pop-up at Orlando’s Tier Nightclub. His Jordan V may get more love, but this XVI deserves some as well.

After striking gold with its initial collaboration with Nike on the Dunk Low in 2002, Supreme opted for the Dunk High when it came time to collaborate with Nike again the following year. Releasing in three iconic colorways (red, orange and blue), the “Supreme” Dunk Highs were notable for its crocodile overlays (instead of elephant print) and gold star paneling along the side. This release helped prove that Supreme had a lot more to say beyond its original Dunk Low, and it set the company on a course for 18 years of successful Nike collaborations. All these years later and this remains one of its best.
