Over the last week, the sneaker industry found itself in uncharted waters as preventative measures are being taken across the globe to combat the spread of COVID-19 coronavirus.

Nike and adidas have shut down their brick and mortar stores here in the United States, cutting out any potential person-to-person contact. Many large cities, including New York and Philadelphia and San Francisco, have shut down all non-essential businesses, leaving small sneaker boutiques scrambling.

Jordan Brand has pushed back numerous retro releases throughout the Spring months, including the much-hyped “Air Dior” Jordan I, which was originally slated to drop in April. Nike surprised the captive audience of sneakerheads isolated in their homes by restocking a ton of kicks on its storefront last week, including the Air More Uptempo, Fear of God Air Skylon II, Olivia Kim Jordan IV and “Pure Money” Jordan III, to name a few.

In these uncertain times, it will be interesting to see how the industry continues to react. Will more releases be postponed? Will brands try to take advantage of everyone’s collective cabin fever and surprise us with some online-only drops? Sneakers certainly aren’t a priority at the moment, but they could be a welcome distraction for an unusually uncertain time.

Never forget: No online retailer has the same breadth and depth of selection as Grailed. From Pizza Hut high tops to Stormtrooper Dunks (and everything in between)–in no particular order, these are our picks for the Rarest Sneakers on Grailed This Week.
