Some of the best SB Dunks are the ones that tell a story. This “Hawaii” Dunk from 2006 is exactly that. Designed by James Keoni Arizumi, this sneaker is meant to pay homage to Pele, the Hawaiian Goddess of fire and volcanoes. Covered in black suede and patent leather, the shoe features orange on the toe box and red along the midsole and tongue, as well as red cross stitching throughout. An embroidered outline of Hawaii and the Hawaiian flag can be found on the heel tab. A picture of Pele can be found on the insole along with the phrase, “Kw wahine ‘ai honua”, which means, “the woman who devours the land.”

In 2017, Pizza Hut–the official pizza sponsor of NCAA’s March Madness–linked up with world-renowned sneaker customizer The Shoe Surgeon for a pizza-flavored pair just in time for the tournament. The original release was limited to just 64 pairs (the amount of entrants in the March Madness bracket). The following year, Pizza Hut and The Shoe Surgeon reunited for another super-limited drop. The “Pie Tops 2,” which are featured in this listing, released 50 pairs in conjunction with the 2018 March Madness tourney. This crust-inspired colorway features Pizza Hut branding on the sides as well as “cheese grater” mesh. The cool thing about both of these limited releases is the shoe’s tongue, which supposedly operates as both a pizza ordering signal and a remote control. The button located on the tongue allows the user to order their favorite pizza and pause live TV (not March Madness this year, unfortunately) to pick it up. An essential gadget in a time of social isolation.

Undefeated, the legendary LA-based sneaker boutique, isn’t afraid to throw its logo on some adidas Ultra Boosts. Last week, we featured its “Stars & Stripes” collaboration, but this week we feature a more monochrome variation of the Ultra Boost 4.0 in crisp black and white. The UNDFTD logo is sprawled across the black Primeknit upper in white, hidden ever so slightly beneath the Three Stripes cage. The only other noticeable piece of branding or signage is the Undefeated five-strikes logo adorned atop the right tongue, while an adidas logo sits on the left tongue. No frills, just black and white excellence.

Before Nike SB transformed the Nike Dunk into the massive firestarter it is today, Dunks were already having quite a moment in the late-’90s and early-2000s across the Pacific. In 2002, right before the SB craze got into full swing, these “Argon” Dunks were a very popular and limited .co.JP release in Japan. The beautiful contrasting blue hues made this one of the more vivacious Dunks of the time and really set the stage for all the exciting colorways that have followed since. This is an awesome grail despite its wear and tear, which is to be expected for an 18-year-old shoe.

Back in 2011, Nike released its “Ostrich Swoosh Pack,” which included five colorways of Dunks, each with ostrich material adorning its–you guessed it–Swoosh. Out of the five colorways, two would be low-tops while the remaining three would be high-tops, including this midnight blue colorway. Relatively simple in its design, the white upper is accented by dark overlays, eyelets, laces and sole. The aforementioned Swoosh features the pebbled ostrich material–which provides the subtlest flex on an overall clean shoe.

The Nike Dunk High “NL” (short for No Liner) is a slightly slimmer version of the legendary silhouette, where the Dunk is stripped of its thick padding to reveal a sleeker overall profile. Undefeated went the slim route when it collaborated with Nike on this dazzling Dunk from 2005. Choosing to go dark and subdued with premium brown leather around the toe and a black upper, they flipped the script with illuminating accent colors throughout the shoe. From the bright blue calf-skin leather on the toe box and tongue to the pink Swoosh and the green midsole, this Undefeated collaboration pops in every way imaginable.

This black and white Dunk High from 2011, which appears simple in its design when examined with a faraway lens, was a part of Nike’s “Be True To Your Streets” campaign in Japan and is affectionately nicknamed the “Stormtrooper” Dunk. Nike’s “Be True To Your School” campaign really jump-started the Dunk in the mid-’80s, as the different colorways represented the assorted high-profile college basketball programs throughout the country. The “Be True To Your Streets” campaign sought to bottle that same passion and excitement. The black and white “Stormtrooper” Dunk featured in this listing was one of the most popular releases from the group, and it features a black polka dot-embossed upper with white leather overlays and Swoosh.

Ready for a cool morning out on the water, this New Balance 496 model, appropriately named “Regatta,” is another excellent collaboration between New Balance and Massachusetts-based sneaker retailer Concepts. Aquatically-infused at every turn, the “Regatta” features a red and blue suede upper with a white midsole. On the insole, you’ll find a water graphic, perfectly completing the image. Concepts isn’t afraid to get nautical when dealing with new Balance, as its “Kennedy,” “Hyannis” (red and blue) and “Esplanade” collaborations all pay homage to New England-based aquatics.

British grime icon Skepta collaborated with Nike on an iridescent Air Max 97 back in 2017, the 20th anniversary of the revolutionary sneaker. The shoe was partially inspired by Skepta’s recent travels to Morocco, as the rose gold and “Vivid Sulfur” colors throughout the shoe’s upper indicate. His shoe also sports a rare yellow Air unit, which is an homage to the design of the Air Tuned Max 99 (as is the entire sneaker itself), which holds a special place in Skepta’s heart–it was the first shoe he ever bought for himself.

Once again, Ronnie Fieg pulled off the triple collaboration with 2018’s New Balance 997S Fusion “Dune” colorway, with both New Balance and Nonnative. It’s a flip on a Nonnative and New Balance collaboration from 2011, which also re-released alongside this in 2018, just with Fieg’s signature spin sprinkled on this time around. The Fusion “Dune” features a brown and tan mesh and pigskin upper, with a triple-stacked blue “N” logo on the side, which is a subtle nod to the three brands coming together. The black tongue stands out from all the earth tones and really separates it from the original “Dune” colorway.
