The big news out of Beaverton this month was the highly-anticipated announcement regarding the future of the late Kobe Bryant’s Nike line. Bryant, who passed away tragically this past January, produced one of the most cutting-edge and popular Nike signature products in the post-Jordan era, with a burgeoning retro line to boot. For months, it was unclear what the line’s future would be, but on August 13th, Kobe fans around the world finally received some clarity.

Nike officially announced “Mamba Week,” which will begin on August 23rd, and will serve as a weeklong celebration of Bryant’s life and legacy. “Mamba Week” will be spearheaded by three initiatives: a $1 million donation to the Mamba and Mambacita Sports Foundation, support of the Mamba League–Bryant’s youth basketball program–and special product releases.

Notable releases scheduled for that week are three new colorways of the Kobe V Protro (“Big Stage Parade,” “Lakers” and “EYBL”), as well as a special collaboration with LA-based retailer Undefeated on a Kobe V Protro “What If?” shoe. In addition, Nike will drop a limited run of the Black Mamba-inspired Lakers City Edition uniform. The black and gold, faux-snakeskin Lakers jersey, which was designed by Bryant in 2017, will be released in both his number 8 and number 24 iterations. All in all, great news for Kobe fans and the next generation of sneakerheads who will be able to get their hands on Kobe’s iconic Nike products.
