Out of all the wild and crazy colorways birthed by the Foamposite One–one of Nike’s most captivating and polarizing creations–the original “Royal” still reigns supreme. Originally unveiled in 1997, the Foamposite One made waves for being the signature sneaker of Penny Hardaway, one of the NBA’s most exciting young players. Donning a never-before-seen molded synthetic upper, along with a mesh bootie, carbon fiber plate and Zoom Air, the Foamposite One was revolutionary, both in its design and performance, during the late-’90s. The pair featured in this listing is from its first retro release in 2007, a decade after its debut. It features all the original touches, including Penny’s “1Cent” logo on the heel.

One of the undisputed best sneakers of 2019, Sacai’s Nike LDV Waffle is the ultimate sneaker hybridization experiment. The LDV Waffle contains design elements from two vintage Nike runners: the Waffle Daybreak and the LDV. Brought together, the shoe features both a double Swoosh and tongue, alone with double eyestays and laces. Originally released in three colorways, this version highlights a blue and red suede upper, to go along with blue mesh and yellow accents along the outermost Swoosh and inside the collar. The original run of releases was so successful that Nike and Sacai have since cranked out four more black and white pairs over the last year.

Sporting the colorway of the University of North Carolina, Michael Jordan’s alma mater, the “Pantone” colorway of the inimitable Jordan XI was originally designed as part of a sample collection during the 2010 World Basketball Festival. Much like the Jordan VII of the same name that was a part of that showcase, the Jordan XI eventually saw the light of day with a proper release during the holidays in 2014. It was the crown jewel of the “Ultimate Gift of Flight Pack,” while being accompanied by a Jordan XXIX in a similar colorway.

Kanye West isn’t the only notable musician who’s made waves on the adidas roster in recent years. Pharrell Williams and his Human Race line have helped pace adidas, alongside Ye, by diversifying its line of runners, most notably the NMD and its Trail version. In 2017, Pharrell gave the NMD Trail an “Oreo” colorway, with notes of black, white and gray weaved together within the Primeknit upper. Most of Pharrell’s NMDs feature words stitched atop the upper, and this pair is no different, featuring “Clouds” and “Moon” stitched in silver. The Primeknit upper sits on a white Boost midsole and black rubber outsole, and is contained by a white lace cage.

This Air Force 1 from 2006, dubbed the “Pixie,” could easily pass for one of the “Easter Egg” iterations we’ve seen over the years. Sporting a Flash and Atomic Green (which veers closer to yellow) colorway, these pastel hues shine bright on the patent leather upper, an addition which really brings this colorway to life. It was originally released as a premium quickstrike, like a lot of other mid-2000s Air Force 1s. And like those other releases, this pair is rare and sold out fast during its original drop. It’s topped off with a white Swoosh and a matching Atomic Green outsole.

Thanks to the following behind the larger-than-life Nike MAG (from Back to the Future Part II) and its place in both sneaker and movie history, Nike has repurposed that colorway quite a few times in different Nike silhouettes, including the Hyperdunk basketball shoe and the SB Dunk Low, which is featured in this listing. Originally released in 2015, the “Marty McFly” Dunk, named after the character who first donned the Nike MAG in the movie, features that same Wolf Grey upper and is accented by a white Swoosh, speckled midsole and a translucent teal outsole.

Originally released in 2011, this pair of SB Dunk Lows received its affectionate nickname due to its noticeable color palette. The black, blue and purple upper is reminiscent of Skeletor, the villain from the He-Man and the Masters of the Universe cartoons. Sporting a black suede upper with Baltic Blue overlays, purple Swoosh and collar, this pair does bear a striking resemblance to the cartoon character, and makes for an excellent Dunk, as well.

Way back in 2006, at the peak of Nike SB’s ascension, the brand engineered an ambitious, off-kilter three-shoe series. Playing off the old children’s story, “Goldilocks and the Three Bears,” Nike SB took each cut of its Dunk model (a high, mid and low) and outfitted each with its own unique colorway and furry upper: the “Papa Bear,” “Mama Bear” and “Baby Bear.” The pair featured in this listing is the mid-cut “Mama Bear,” which sports a brown fur upper with green suede overlays and pink accents. All three make for sought after collector’s items, both individually and, especially, as a full set. Even if these don’t do it for you, there’s no denying that—without these dropping back in 2006—we wouldn’t have the hyper-popular “Grateful Dead” SB Dunk series that landed earlier in 2020.

Just a few weeks ago, Montreal-based skate shop [Dime] released its inaugural sneaker collaboration with New Balance. While the 990, 992 and other models have been receiving a lot of well deserved shine over the last few years, Dime opted to go outside the box with the 860 v2 model as its canvas. Releasing in two versions, including the yellow, blue and black colorway featured in this listing, Dime highlights the runner’s technical prowess with yellow decal lines along the upper and around the “N” logo, while injecting just the right amount of branding on the tongue and on the tiniest little side flap. It’s a great first collaboration and hopefully a sign of more work to come.

The Asics Gel Saga silhouette got the “Kill Bill” treatment for this 2013 collaboration with Kith. In 2003’s Kill Bill: Volume 1, Uma Thurman’s character wears black and yellow Onitsuka Tigers, as well as an unmistakable matching jumpsuit, itself an homage to Bruce Lee’s style in the seminal 1978 movie Game of Death. This take on the Gel Saga pays homage to that iconic character with yellow synthetic suede overlays, black suede tiger stripes, plus a hint of silver 3M on the heel. The speckled midsole is a nice touch, as she spilled quite a bit of blood on her Onitsuka Tigers throughout both Kill Bill movies.
