The Nike Air Trainer 1 was a revolutionary piece of footwear when it was originally released way back in 1987. Designed by Tinker Hatfied and worn by tennis legend John McEnroe, the Air Trainer 1 was created to perform both on the court and in the gym, one seamless piece of footwear aimed at optimal performance in all arenas.

Last week we received word that the Air Trainer 1 would be re-releasing exclusively overseas in its OG “Chlorophyll” colorway, although this time under the Nike SB moniker. Traditionally a Nike Sportswear model, the new Nike SB Air Trainer 1 appears to include all the original details and no noticeable design changes according to leaked photos.

Crafted in an era when Tinker Hatfield created some of the world’s most iconic sneakers–Jordan III and IV, Air Trainer SC, Air Max 1, Air Max 90–the Air Trainer 1’s place in sneaker and sports lore is solidified. It will be interesting to see if Nike SB repurposes any other Sportswear models going forward. If we know one thing, it’s that the Air Trainer 1 is built for any activity, from tennis to skateboarding.

With that in mind, we kick off this week’s list with a nostalgic selection of classic Nike silhouettes, many of which were also designed by the GOAT himself, Tinker Hatfield.

No other retailer has the same breadth and depth of selection as Grailed. From Carmelo PEs to the “Shaqnosis” (and everything in between)–in no particular order, these are our picks for Grailed Sneaker Stories of the Week.
