Ready for playoff action, the Kobe V “POP” (Playoff Pack) was released as part of a series of Nike hoops silhouettes, which featured geometric patterned designs along the upper (a Nike Hyperize was also released with similar designs, albeit in a completely different colorway). The Kobe V features a black upper with purple accents on the tongue, heel and toe cap, while the gold pattern works as an overlay around the laces, extending to the midsole. It’s topped off with a white Swoosh. Originally released in 2010, Kobe wore these intermittently during his fifth Championship run with the Lakers.

Another classic Kobe V colorway is this Dark Knight-inspired pair from 2010. The Neptune Blue colorway stands out on the predominantly black upper, as this Gotham-approved Kobe V comes fully equipped with Flywire technology, a TPU heel counter and Zoom Air unit with Lunar foam. It’s no secret Kobe was a big Dark Knight fan, particularly the late Heath Ledger’s iconic performance as The Joker. In arguably the greatest Christmas Day sneaker showdown of all time, LeBron James broke out these all-red LeBron VIIIs for a big-time matchup with Kobe and the Lakers back in 2010. Kobe, of course, would wear the “Grinch” Kobe VIs, arguably the most sought after sneakers in the entire Kobe line, but LeBron didn’t disappoint with his Christmas-themed kicks. Sporting a red upper with white Swoosh, the “Christmas” LeBron VIIIs feature a black and white speckled midsole with green laces.

Originally released in 1993 during the final leg of the Bulls’ first three-peat, Jordan wore these “Playoff” Jordan VIIIs when he defeated the Phoenix Suns in an epic six-game series. The Bulls traditionally went all-black with footwear during the playoffs (more on that in a second) and this take on the Jordan VIII was no different. Sporting an all-black nubuck upper, the VIII features a prominent brushstroke overlay above the midsole, featuring pops of red, black and white. Not much has changed between the OG from 1993 and the 2013 retro (or the 2007 retro), except the heel tab, which was once red on the OG and is now black.

When Michael Jordan wasn’t making memories in the “Flu Games,” he was rocking his “Playoff” XIIs during the 1997 NBA Playoffs, including the Finals against the Utah Jazz. This was the sneaker Jordan wore when he hit that other game-winner over Bryon Russell in Game 1 of the Finals. MJ actually debuted the shoe during the 1997 All-Star Game and they would feature prominently throughout the playoff run. Similar to the popular “Taxi” colorway, the “Playoffs” feature an inverted version of the classic black and white version.

Much like the aforementioned “Playoff” XIIs, next season’s iteration would debut at the All-Star Game before making waves in the playoffs. That year’s All-Star Game would become known as a star-making moment for a young Kobe Bryant who dueled against the seasoned MJ in an exciting back and forth. The all-black “Playoffs” would make a name for themselves during the actual playoffs and would even be featured in the Finals, however Jordan switched to his “Last Shot” XIVs late in the series, robbing them of an all-time moment. In an alternate timeline somewhere, these would be the “Last Shot” XIIIs instead of merely the “Playoffs.”

Released in 2017 exclusively at Philadelphia retailer Lapstone & Hammer, this black and white pair of Reebok Answer IVs now go by the “Stepover”, as these were the shoes Allen Iverson wore during Game 1 of the 2001 NBA Finals against the Lakers when he infamously banged a fadeaway in front of a falling Ty Lue and proceeded to step over him in dramatic fashion. The Answer IVs were worn by Iverson during the best year of his career in 2000-01, in which he won league MVP, another scoring title and dragged the 76ers to the NBA Finals. The Game 1 upset of LA was a legendary Iverson performance and these sneakers are the perfect souvenir for any A.I. fan.

We talked at length last week about Shawn Kemp’s “Kamikaze” silhouettes, arguably his most popular signature models during his time with Reebok in the mid-’90s. Even still, he did sport some other underrated kicks during his time with Reebok. The pair featured in this listing is dubbed the “Reignman” and was released in 1996. Taking some design cues from another Reebok sneaker that was released at the time–Allen Iverson’s Question model–the Reignman features a wavy midsole with Hexalite cushioning. Sporting green and silver accents along the upper, the Reignman features a Reebok logo bubble on the side, with additional branding on the heel tab and on the sole. Sporting a new lower profile, these are a far cry from the zig-zag nature of the Kamikaze.

Originally designed to be a signature sneaker for then-new Nike signee Kobe Bryant, the Zoom Huarache 2K4 can be seen here in Minneapolis Lakers colors, a throwback uniform the Lakers wore intermittently during that time frame in the early-2000s. Wolf Grey features prominently on the upper while that “MPLS”-inspired University Blue serves as the accent colors throughout the midsole, tongue strap and Swoosh. The perfect complement to one of the coldest throwback jerseys the league has ever seen.
