Designed by Ari Forman, a graphic designer and experiential marketer, these bootleg Air Force 1s are one of the most controversial sneakers of all time. Forman sought to create his own custom “case study” when he designed the Air Menthol 10s in 2006. He created a sample and manufactured just 252 pairs in China. A commentary on the effect major corporations—from cigarette companies to sneaker giants—had on the lives within sneaker communities, the sneaker was as much cultural critique as it was aesthetic experiment. Influenced heavily by BAPE and NIGO, Forman’s Menthols featured incredible detail, from the money signs on the sole, to the custom “ARI” on the heel, to the signature Menthol Spinnaker logo in the place of the similar-looking Nike Swoosh on the sides. The sneakers even came in a shoebox designed to replicate a cigarette carton. Nike sent a cease and desist letter immediately, but it was the cigarette companies who came after him hard. Every pair was ordered to be destroyed and years of legal trouble ensued for Forman. Some pairs still pop up from time to time—like this listing, which appears to be in fantastic condition. Truly a master class in detailed design and branding, these kicks shouldn’t even be for sale. Get them while you can.

It’s no shock that someone with the marketing acumen of King James would cross-promote two of his biggest endorsers–his signature sneakers and soft drink. In 2015, for a special limited edition LeBron XII, James would incorporate design elements from his personal Sprite Mix soft drink into his new sneaker. Limited to just 100 pairs and packaged in a custom box with Beats headphones and three cans of Sprite, this concoction became an instant collector’s item for sneakerheads and LeBron aficionados. While this No. 83/100 pair doesn’t explicitly state that all of those extras come in the listing–and for that price tag it would be a crime if they didn’t–this remains an incredibly rare pair that you never see hit the market.

As we all know, the greatest perk of being an athlete at the University of Oregon is the free custom kicks Nike gifts you every season. One of the best pairs ever sent over from Beaverton is this 2011 “Pit Crew” Jordan III, designed in part by ex-Oregon football player Jason Williams and the Nike titan Tinker Hatfield. The “Pit Crew” pays homage to the name given to the raucous student section at Oregon games. Unlike other custom Oregon kicks, non-athletes could actually get their hands on these by attending a certain amount of athletic events. Complete with the Oregon “O” stitched on the tongue, with “Pit Crew” on the sides, and produced in incredibly limited quantities, these Oregon IIIs are a great find for any Jordan fan.

This classic Nike Dunk was designed by Eric Haze and only about 1,000 pairs were originally produced. The NYC graffiti legend, who has designed logos for Public Enemy, EPMD and even album covers for the Beastie Boys, created this Dunk with his passions in mind. Featuring a faded, hazy airbrush design, these are a throwback to airbrush T-shirt designs from back in the day. There aren’t many of these floating around on Grailed.

Over the past three years, Acronym and Nike have collaborated on quite a few Presto models, but none are as good or sought after as this olive and black listing. While other colorways rely on splashy colors and patterns, this lets perfect sneaker design do the talking with a subtle colorway that just works. Decked in a neoprene upper with side zippers, leather heels and a black and white sole, this was one of the best sneaker releases of 2016, bar none. Acronym is known for its advanced and stylish techwear, and these Prestos fit that aesthetic perfectly.

Originally released as part of Virgil Abloh’s “The Ten” collection with Nike, these unique Nike Prestos are some of the best realizations of Abloh’s design vision. This Presto is completely broken down and rebuilt with the help of a tonal swoosh and mesh uppers, not to mention the signature Abloh zip tie and annotated “AIR” on the strap. This sneaker was wildly successful and while he would go on to design other, tonal Presto models, none of them quite match up to the original.

Leave it to Supreme to take one of the most ostentatious Nike hoops models of all time and remix it. The Nike Air More Uptempo was made famous by Scottie Pippen in 1996 with its loud bubble Air branding covering the outside of the shoe. Twenty-one years later, Supreme re-designed it with its own Supreme branding wrapped around the outside of the shoe in three different colorways, including this tonal black listing. Out of the three Supreme sneakers, this colorway remains very similar to the original Scottie wore on the court. Supreme’s Nike kicks are always difficult to get your hands on and this Uptempo is no different–grab a piece of this rare air while you can.

Coraline, the 2009 animated film, was the first full-length animated feature released by Laika Studios, which just so happens to call Nike-founder Phil Knight its chairman. This pair of SB Dunk Highs inspired by the movie featured a grey canvas upper with sewn seams and black stitching. Black buttons on the tongue and eyelets are callbacks to the movie, along with a glow in the dark outsole. They are limited to just 100 pairs, so good luck securing one of these SBs.

Released in anticipation of every stoner’s favorite day in 2010, these “Skunk” SB Dunk Highs were brought to life by skate artist Todd Bratrud. It’s not the only time he’s designed a cannabis collab, but it just may be the most recognizable and successful of all his models. Constructed with fuzzy suede in a green and purple colorway and a cartoon skunk insole, these really lean into the theme. One of the most successful and rare SBs of the 2010s, there are only a handful of these available on Grailed.

The renowned drummer, cultural connoisseur and bandleader for The Roots received his own limited Air Force 1 back in 2008. Decked in green elephant print, offset by varying shades of red leather, with a gold swoosh and Questlove’s silhouette on the heel, these bold Air Forces jump off the screen. Originally releasing at Alife in New York, Ubiq in Philadelphia and other select Nike retailers, these were nearly impossible to get your hands on. 11 years later they remain a tough get, so grab one of the few pairs available on Grailed while you still can.
