Skepta and Nike Rework the Air Max Deluxe

Skepta’s second collaboration with Nike, the Air Max 97 BW, was a smash hit back in May so it’s no wonder they’ve already teamed up with the grime star for a third trainer.
After two iterations of the Air Max 97, Skepta and Nike have decided to switch it up by putting a spin on the lesser-known Air Max Deluxe, which was originally released in 1999. This particular colorway pays tribute to New York City and the role it has played in Skepta’s international career. According to Nike, the shoe, “encapsulates his relationship to the city—where he is embraced with open arms in the five boroughs by fans, friends and family—and serves as a reminder of his emergence.”
The shoe features a black neoprene upper with a VHS static-like pattern with the text “12:05 PM JUNE 08 2014”, commemorating the time and date Skepta’s breakout single “That’s Not Me” was released. “NEVER SLEEP ON TOUR”—a saying reflecting the grime artist’s tireless work ethic and motto—adorns the interior of each shoe.
The Skepta x Nike Air Max Deluxe SK is set to release via Nike’s SNKRS app and select retailers on September 8. Be sure to check Grailed’s Hype marketplace for another chance to cop.
