This Saturday, Jordan Brand will cap off an exciting week of releases with the highly anticipated return of the “Carmine” Jordan VI. Releasing for the first time since 2014, this iteration of the “Carmine” will feature all the OG trimmings, including the highly-coveted Nike Air insignia on the heel, while remaining true to its original shape and design for the first time since its debut in 1991.

The Jordan VI “Carmine” was a major force on the court for MJ throughout 1991, however, once he turned the page toward the Jordan VII the following year, the “Carmine” laid dormant in the Nike vaults for quite some time. It wasn’t until 2008 that the “Carmine” received a proper retro release, alongside the Jordan XVII as part of Jordan Brand’s “Countdown Pack” collection. The VI/XVII combo proved to be one of the brand’s most popular tag teams, thanks in large part to the Carmines’ highly-anticipated return. The colorway would eventually retro once again in 2014.

The Jordan VI holds a special place in Air Jordan lore. Aesthetics and design work aside, it’s the shoe Michael Jordan wore when he won his first NBA Championship in 1991. It also served as the end of an era in a lot of ways, as the Jordan VI was the last sneaker in the line to feature both Nike Air and Jordan branding. The Jordan VII removed any trace of “Nike Air” from its outward logos and the brand never looked back.

As the sneaker celebrates its 30th Anniversary this year, it’s no greater time to bring back the “Carmine”, an OG Jordan VI and one of the silhouette’s standout colorways–the only OG pair to feature contrast color blocking on the upper. When they release this Saturday, they will look just like they did in 1991, albeit with a slightly higher price tag ($200 retail).

It’s the cherry on top of a notable week of releases for Jordan Brand, starting with the return of the “Natural Grey” Jordan I on Thursday, February 10. Releasing for the first time since its 1985 debut, this rare Jordan I returns with all the OG detailing. Rumor has it, the sneaker is limited to just 23,000 pairs and comes with the throwback hang tag included as well. That’s followed by CLOT’s Jordan XIV and XXXV collaboration, before finishing off the week strong with the Carmines.
