Presidential Sneakers for Sale

While presidential kicks aren’t a first (looking at you George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton), there’s no doubt that Barack Obama is the most recent president to receive a pair of custom Nike’s (and, frankly, have the cool to back them up). A noted basketball fan, Nike gifted the 44th President a custom pair of Hyperdunks, tweaked with all the trimmings befitting the leader of the free world. While President Obama didn’t actually own or wear these kicks, it’s clear who they’re designed for. Built on the “United We Rise” colorway created for Team USA at the 2008 Olympic Games, from the United States Presidential seal on the tongue, to the “44” embroidered on the inner toe, these are truly a one-of-a-kind find. Fortunately, these sneakers are available for sale to the public. Unfortunately, they aren’t for the faint of heart (or should we say, “faint of bank account”). If you wanted to cop this piece of Presidential history, it’ll set you back a cool $25,000.

Nike Goes Hands-Free:

Nike has once again pushed the boundaries of sneaker design and innovation with the announcement of the Nike Go FlyEase, the first completely hands-free sneaker. Supported by a tensioner band and bi-stable hinge, the design makes it easily accessible by stepping down on the shoe’s “kickstand” for a seamless on and off experience, no hands or lacing required. While the shoe is releasing at a time where consumers, especially those in the work from home space, are trending more towards increasingly comfortable sneaker options like Crocs and Birkenstocks, the shoe’s lasting impact should be to benefit those who are unable to lace up sneakers due to disabilities. Releasing next month at a retail price of $120, hopefully this new technology can directly benefit those who need it the most.

Sustainability Personified:

In another monumental announcement from the Swoosh, Nike announced its new Cosmic Unity silhouette, Nike’s first performance shoe releasing under its Move to Zero initiative, which represents a mission toward zero waste and zero carbon. Like the “Space Hippie” sneakers previously released, the Cosmic Unity consists of 25 percent recycled material by weight, making it Nike’s first-ever sustainable basketball shoe. The Zoom sole consists of excess materials, while Crater Foam, a recycled foam with bits of Nike Grind rubber, fills the sole. It will be releasing later this month in both a “Space Hippie” and “Amalgam” colorway.

Aleali May Goes Back to the Jordan I:

Designer and frequent Air Jordan collaborator Aleali May is going back to the Jordan I once again for a new green and blue collaborative effort. Coming off the heels of quite a few successful Air Jordan collaborations in recent years, most notably her silver Jordan I from 2017, May has decided to tackle the enhanced Zoom CMFT variety, which features a slight departure from the OG design.

Kevin Durant strolling through the tunnel wearing not just the “Grinch” Kobe VIs, but he’s also sporting a custom NWO jacket for all the wrestling fans out there. The jacket is designed by Brandon Jennings’ Tuff Crowd label, a brand Durant has been seen in quite a few times so far this season.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, someone who takes his on and off court style very seriously, debuted an upcoming Chinatown Market x Converse collaboration on the court last week.

Ja Morant, one of the league’s most exciting young players and last season’s “Rookie of the Year”, can be seen here making moves on and off the court with the “Mamba Day” Kobe 1 Protros and Jordan XI “Space Jam”. Always good to see the young guys paying homage to the legends who came before them.

Allen Iverson Drops 60 Points on the Orlando Magic (February 12, 2005):

On the court, we celebrate Allen Iverson scoring a career-high 60 points on February 12, 2005, against the Orlando Magic in the Answer 8. A.I., who won multiple scoring titles throughout his Hall of Fame career, clocked in 60 points for the only time against the Magic at home. Iverson added six assists and five steals in the 112-99 victory, wearing the underrated Answer 8 during the legendary performance. A.I. would go on to finish that 2005 season as a member of the All-NBA first team, All-Star Game MVP and Scoring champion.

David Robinson Secures a Quadruple-Double Against Detroit (February 17, 1994):

Also, we have to celebrate “The Admiral” David Robinson, who on February 17, 1994, completed the rare feat of a [quadruple double] against the Detroit Pistons. He scored 34 points and added 10 assists, 10 rebounds and 10 blocks to achieve the honor. The performance is the last recorded quadruple-double in an NBA game; no one has repeated the feat hasn’t been repeated since Robinson’s performance in February 1994. He did so while wearing the Nike Air Unlimited, one of the premier high-tops for many All-Stars (Robinson, Chris Webber, Grant Hill) in the mid-90s.
