Reading the Tea Leaves at Nike and Jordan Brand:

Throughout the last week on social media, we were teased with new branding designs and potential new signature sneakers for some of our favorite athletes and entertainers. Over at SneakerCenter, the team pointed out the new logo for Jordan Brand athlete Luka Doncic on his latest Jordan PE. Could a signature sneaker soon be on the way for the young superstar?

Off the court, BR Kicks pointed out a potential new OVO-laden Air Force 1, brought to you by none other than the OVO General, Drake. While the kicks were inevitably revealed to be part of a custom order for select OVO members, that still doesn't dismiss the rumors that a new Nike release will be dropping in collaboration with OVO. It’s been a while since the latest Drake collaboration, but with his new NOCTA brand hitting the streets in recent months, it seems like a new sneaker is right around the corner.

Grails at the Auction:

Last week we showed you two incredible grails hitting auctions: the “Obama” Hyperdunks and an autographed pair of 1985 Jordan Is. This week, we bring you not only a crazy throwback sneaker, but a personal gift from one GOAT to another. Back in 2002, Kobe Bryant gifted high-school sensation LeBron James a pair of his Stars and Stripes adorned adidas Kobe IIs. LeBron wore the pair on court during a game against Oak Hill Academy (and Carmelo Anthony). The unique pair are now available via Heritage Auctions. A true piece of sneaker history.

Trophy Room Headaches:

Last week’s highly-anticipated Trophy Room x Jordan I collaboration was met with a lot of frustration and head scratching from those trying to get their hands on the pair. The frosted “Chicago” Jordan I was an homage to the notorious “Freeze Out” in the 1985 All-Star Game when, allegedly, a rookie MJ was alienated by his older teammates who kept the ball away from him, trying to ground the high-flying rookie. Before the pair even released, hundreds of pairs were showing up on social media via backdoor releases, much to the chagrin of those trying to purchase at retail. When the shoes were released via raffle, the site quickly malfunctioned and the retailer was forced to pivot to an email raffle. Within minutes, the email wasn’t accepting any more entries. The entire release appeared to be chaos, which is unfortunate, because it was an awesome shoe with some incredible storytelling. Limited Quantities did pop up on SNKRS later in the day, and Trophy Room did eventually re-open the raffle as well.

LeBron turned back the clock and went into the archives last week, breaking out a Ken Griffey-inspired LeBron XV PE. LeBron is a huge Griffey fan so it’s no surprise to see these, especially right before last week’s successful Air Griffey Max 1 return.

We revealed two weeks ago that the resident NBA sneaker king, P.J. Tucker, was dropping new Kobe PEs throughout the season, all of which are inspired in some way by one of his fashion idols, Kanye West. The first pair of Kobe VI PEs featured an ode to the rare “Cheetah” Nike Air Yeezy sample. This latest version is an homage to another Nike Air Yeezy II, this time in the “Pure Platinum” colorway. We can’t wait to see what else Tucker has in store for us this season.

Dallas Mavs guard Josh Richardson was spotted on court last week rocking the “Hot Ones” x Reebok Question collab. The uber-successful YouTube series has secured quite a few Reebok collaborations in recent months, but it’s good to see this one on court.

These next two aren’t hoops, but we just had to share.

Yankees legend C.C. Sabathia gave fans a peek at his insane sneaker collection last week. Sabathia had a little bit of everything, but his two Eminem Jordan IVs–the “Encore”s and the “Carhartt”s, two of the [most elusive (and expensive) pairs in sneaker history](https://www.grailed.com/drycleanonly/most-expensive-sneakers–stole the show.

On the day of the release of his new song with Nipsey Hussle, Jay-Z was spotted wearing the Union x Jordan IVs, to go along with his “Crenshaw” shirt. The Marathon Continues.

James Worthy’s Birthday (February 27, 1961):

First, we want to give a birthday shout out to Lakers legend James Worthy. One of the most underrated great players in NBA history, Worthy was also a New Balance athlete. He was the center of some creative marketing strategies and the one-time face of New Balance’s basketball segment. Now that New Balance is getting back into basketball in a major way, we’d expect to see more of “Big Game James” in the months and years to come—even if only in brand-adjacent moodboards.

Vinsanity Goes for 51 (February 27, 2000):

Fresh off his legendary performance at the Slam Dunk Contest in Oakland, Vince Carter’s high-flying act welcomed the Phoenix Suns to Toronto for a legendary scoring performance. In one of the greatest stretches of his career, “Air Canada” dropped 51 on the Suns in spectacular fashion, while wearing the And1 Tai Chi sneakers. Carter had been sponsored by Puma before eventually landing with Nike, but he also wore the And1 Tai Chi, one of the most ubiquitous hoops shoes of the era, throughout the 1999-2000 season, including during his legendary performance in the Slam Dunk contest.
