Sneak Peek at Travis Scott’s New Jordan VI:

Travis Scott has conquered quite a few Jordan Brand silhouettes over the last few years, including the classic Jordan VI, which he designed in an Olive colorway back in 2019. Last week we received word that he would be tackling the VI once again, this time in a British Khaki colorway. While there’s no announcement from Jordan on an official release date just yet, it appears as though they will be dropping sooner rather than later, equipped with all the notable accessories (like the side pockets on the shoe’s collar and Cactus Jack branding) from the 2019 pair.

Melody Ehsani Named Creative Director of Foot Locker Women’s:

Foot Locker recently named Melody Ehsani, the L.A.-based designer, Creative Director of its entire women’s business. Ehsani, who has collaborated with Jordan Brand in recent years on an Jordan I Mid and Jordan OG, will develop content and products in the women’s category, overseeing the curation of Nike and Jordan products and the creation of capsule collections. Her first collection is slated to release later this summer at Foot Lockers across North America, as well as select locations around the globe.

Sacai x KAWS x Nike Collab Slated for Summer:

Sacai has made waves in recent years within the sneaker community for its uber-successful Nike collaborations—including all the Sacai x Nike LD Waffle colorways from 2019. The brand announced recently it will be collaborating with KAWS on a limited run of Nike Blazer Lows. Expected to be equipped with a lot of the double branding they made famous on the LD Waffle, the collaboration is scheduled to shake up the summer with a July release.

Bacons are Back:

Much to the delight of sneakerheads everywhere, Nike recently announced the return of the highly sought after Air Max 90 “Bacon”, just in time for Air Max Day 2021. Releasing via the SNKRS App, the “Bacon” Air Max 90 originally dropped way back in 2005 at Dave’s Quality Meat, a now-defunct sneaker boutique in New York City. The multi-colored Air Max is designed to mimic the color of bacon, hence the pinks, tans and browns that permeate the upper. Look for these to be a huge hit on Air Max Day.

In the hip-hop hoop world, Bleacher Report’s Open Run competition (effectively a 2-on-2 celebrity basketball game) went down last week, setting up Quavo and Jack Harlow against Lil Baby and 2 Chainz, with $500K going towards HBCUs selected by the winning team. There was no shortage of heat on the floor, in particular Quavo’s custom “Grinch” Kobe 6s, courtesy of Mache, as well as Lil’ Baby’s Trophy Room x Jordan I.

Down in the college ranks, University of North Carolina head coach Roy Williams flexed on the sidelines last week against Duke in the latest Jordan V “UNC PE.” Coach has always had a steady rotation of heat on the sidelines as MJ always makes sure his alma mater is stacked with the best Jordan Brand PEs. Speaking of Jordan Vs, the Marquette men’s basketball just received its Jordan V PEs as well.

Ja Morant finished the first half of the NBA season with another ode to the Black Mamba, rocking the “MPLS” Kobe 1 Protro on the court last week.

Iverson Crosses Jordan (March 12, 1997):

Technically this should have been in last week’s column but it needs to be acknowledged regardless. In March of 1997, Allen Iverson was in the process of completing a Rookie of the Year campaign for a fledgling 76ers team, while Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls were en route to their fifth championship in the last seven years. When they met in this relatively insignificant (in terms of the standings) regular season game, it created a generational moment. Iverson held the ball at the top of the key in the third quarter and His Airness rotated out on to him. Just the two of them out on an island. Iverson tested him with a small cross, then when he sensed that he’d bite, hit him again, pulling up for a jumper that lifted the Philly crowd into a frenzy. It was only one shot, but he got his idol with his move. Iverson was wearing his classic Reebok Question while Jordan was rocking the White/Red Air Jordan XII.
