Tee'd Up: Supreme Announces GZA and Tabboo! Collaborations
- Words Anteneh Gebre
- Date September 18, 2018
After releasing a teaser video yesterday, we’ve got an official look at the Supreme x GZA tee.
The latest in a long line of collaborations between Supreme and “Golden Era” rappers such as Nas, Public Enemy and Mobb Deep, the front of the tee features the album art for GZA’s universally acclaimed debut album Liquid Swords. The back includes the title of the album’s closer “B.I.B.L.E. (Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth)” along with a small box logo. A beanie—which has not been publicly revealed at the time of writing—will also be dropping.
Dropping alongside the GZA tee is a collaboration with American artist and performer Tabboo!, who met fellow Massachusetts-based art students Nan Goldin (who Supreme also collaborated with), Jack Pierson and David Armstrong to form the collective known as the Boston School. After relocating to the East Village in the early 1980s, Tabboo! became a regular performer at the drag-punk Pyramid Club. He designed the club’s advertisements, along with the album covers for Deee-Lite and Book of Love, ultimately honing and defining what would become his signature style. Tabboo!’s capsule with Supreme includes two hoodies, two tees and a six-panel hat.
The Supreme x GZA and Supreme x Tabboo! collaborations drop this Thursday, September 20, at Supreme’s US, European and online stores. It will release on September 22 in Japan. Be sure to check Grailed shortly after 11 am as the collaborations make their way to the Hype marketplace.
