Undercover’s Autumn/Winter 2001 collection "Melting Pot" featured a strong inspiration from one of Jun Takahashi's favorite movies, Star Wars. The season was his initial foray into experimentations with technical designs and fabrics that can be seen in his later works starting around 2007. This particular bomber does not outwardly scream fanboy, but there is a subtle camouflage-esque flourish of paint underneath the left arm. Taking things a step further, Takahashi added a synthetic honeycomb water-proof shell to ensure you remain dry when gathering your clone army on the rainy planet of Kamino.

Introduced as part of the debut of the DRKSHDW label in Spring/Summer 2008, the gimp hoodie is one of Rick Owens' quintessential pieces that has come to represent the sinister undertones for which his sportswear-focused line is named. With an extended silhouette, canvas bondage chest strap and a full zip front closure that extends to the hood, there is a clear inspiration from the gimp masks and bondage straps that are common within sadomasochist subculture. What sets the gimp hoodie apart is that the chest strap can double as a carry strap, and the full zip hood not only allows the wearer to conceal part or all of their face, but provides added structure to the hood for an impressive appearance even when worn open.

Rebuild by Needles is a concept brand by Nepenthes owner and director Keizo Shimizu that takes apart vintage pieces and reconstructs them, breathing new life into otherwise ordinary garments. While the brand is relatively new, the cult status of its 7-cut and ribbon flannel shirts has overshadowed nearly every other offering under the Nepenthes umbrella. The idea of the 7-cut flannel is fairly simple: cut up pre-distressed vintage flannel shirts of varying sizes and lengths and splice them together to form a new shirt. The result is a Frankenstein-like creation that perfectly encapsulates the grunge aesthetic.
