Boris Bidjan Saberi's AW10-11 collection, entitled “Blood,” was created during a tough year for the German & Persian designer, as Saberi sadly lost his mother going into the season. This had a huge impact creatively on him and most of the collection was very dark with hints of red translucent leather and other various red elements, capturing the essence of the collection’s title. Known generally for his intricately detailed leather stitching and unorthodox patterns, this season in particular was not one too miss. This Boris Bidjan Saberi J2 above comes in an ultra soft waxed lamb skin leather and features a thick hidden placket with oversized double zip closure, stand up collar, side slit pockets with top stitch details, and a full lining that hangs out under the hem and sleeves. It is a fantastic piece of avant-garde fashion that can be also be a versatile piece for anyone looking to make his or her wardrobe just a tad bit darker.

Leading up to the mid-2000s, Jun Takahashi had began to mature both as an individual and as a designer. Your typical cotton composition was replaced with technical fabrics that would change with the weather, and the overall design of the items produced by his label, Undercover, became more minimal, elegant and functional. Despite moving away from the “chaos” that engulfed the brand for the majority of the previous two decades, Undercover's AW07 collection still showed signs of Takahashi's roots. The men's black leather jacket featured removable sleeves, two long zip-closure breast pockets, and a moto-style throat closure to complete a symmetrical take on 70’s punk. Furthermore, each shoulder is adorned with two D-rings that are reminiscent of those that hung on Sid Vicious' belt courtesy of Vivienne Westwood and Malcolm Maclaren. This piece serves as a reminder of how the music that shaped an era has also drastically influenced the fashion industry forever.

The Tokyo-based Blackmeans is inarguably one of the most innovative high-end punk labels around. With a D.I.Y. aesthetic, their influences come from every punk scene, from the original British movement, to the Japanese crust punks of the '90s, with every detail cranked up to 11. This take on a quilted double rider jacket is a perfect example of the brand's ability to take an iconic design and rework it without losing its original meaning. Keeping the original style's silhouette, the jacket is slightly cropped to allow for comfort when riding a motorcycle. Fashioned from heavy sheepskin and lined with quilted padding through the entire jacket, Blackmeans adds extended quilting on the shoulder and elbow panels, along with two adjustable cinch straps on either side of the waist. The design is taken to a new level with an additional "kidney" pocket at the center waist and a sleeve pocket on the left forearm. Finishing things off are Blackmeans' signature chunky brass zippers and snaps, and their own unique garment wash method for a weathered appearance and lived-in feel.

Helmut Lang's AW99 collection was focused on defining a new armor for the approaching millennium. The culmination of over a decade of austere minimalist designs with high-quality and high-tech fabrics, Lang took it a step further by injecting NASA-inspired design details for a truly futuristic vision. This astro moto was one of Lang's more inconspicuous creations, but nonetheless a design that balanced all of these influences in one garment, which prompted its use in the season's print advertisements photographed by Jeurgen Teller. Fashioned from a soft and lightweight black calf leather, the jacket is fully padded for insulation and structure, with reinforced padding details on the shoulders and elbows. Alongside the two side pockets are separate zippers which open up to give the wearer access to their pant pockets while riding a motorcycle, but also double as hand warmer pockets, keeping the wearers hands insulated in colder conditions. It also features a less obtrusive asymmetrical cafe racer collar with a glossy black snap closure, and a front zip closure and zippered sleeve cuffs, making this truly a moto jacket for the new millennium and beyond.

First released in 2009 as part of his "Crust" collection, Rick Owens' Stooges jacket has since become one of his most iconic silhouettes. As with many fashion designers, Rick draws heavy influence from other cultural arenas, most specifically music. And just as Rick has become a formative member of the avant-garde, draped out style that has become prevalent, Iggy and the Stooges were instrumental in their own right, as one of the earliest bands to develop the punk rock sound. The Stooges jacket has been iterated on numerous times in various fabrics since its introduction and this particular model is from SS10. It is made from thin yet strong kangaroo leather which will be lightweight and durable, molding to the wearer's body over time. With classic double rider details like an asymmetrical zip, epaulets and a small pocket in the lower front, this jacket is supremely wearable, yet instantly recognizable as a timeless Rick Owens classic.
